Elidor.

By Alan Garner.

Synopsis:
Four children accidentally get landed with saving an alternate reality.

Review:
A children's fantasy novel that doesn't attempt to glamorise the other world, which makes a nice change. I especially liked the way Malebron manipulates them into retrieving the Treasures, and the difficulties they faced back in their own world (eg, a train conductor not letting them aboard because they're covered in mud etc. from saving the Treasures, the energy the Treasures give off affecting TV reception). Also, the guys sent after them are very creepy, and there's a great aura of menace, even though they don't actually do much.

It could maybe have done with being a little longer, as it felt a smidge rushed, but aside from that, it was good.
