Night Shift.

By Stephen King.

Synopsis:
A collection of King's early short stories, with an introduction by John D. MacDonald.

Review:
It's a little disconcerting. All the usual characterisation and slicing up of things, but the style is less polished, and borrows more obviously. But then everyone pinches from Lovecraft, so I suppose it's okay.

There are a few stories taken from (or leading to... I could check publication dates but that would mean getting up) his larger novels. There are two that tie-in with 'Salem's Lot, and one with the Stand. There are also several that have been made into movies. Cat's Cradle used about three, as I recall. The book also contains Graveyard Shift, the Mangler, Trucks, Sometimes they come back, and Children of the Corn. However in all of these cases I advise reading the book then ignoring the movies. Although the first Children of the Corn one wasn't that bad...

Anyway, less polished than the larger novels, but if you can't face up to those brick-sized slabs, this'll do just as well.
