First, a few words of explanation. The 'named characters' bit was included because there are a good many characters that never get named. I'm talking about the episodes where there are about eight Clangers on screen, but only five get given individual names. Plot is, I trust, fairly self-explanatory, although you do get to realise just how weird that show was when you're faced with the task of compressing the plot of a whole episode down to a paragraph.

And finally, I almost drove myself to psychosis writing this, as far too much Clangers over a short period of time causes a) the tune the Music Trees plays to be stuck in your head for forty-eight hour periods (and it's only three bars long...) b) An already healthily intense hatred of Earth and it's inhabitants to grow to worrying proportions, and c) soup consumption to increase drastically. So read it, or I'll have suffered for nothing.

Series One.

1. Flying
Named Characters: Major Clanger, Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: Major Clanger has built a flying machine, but it doesn't work very well, and crashes. Small and Tiny Clanger fetch some soup, and give Major Clanger a mug to cheer him up, then go outside to play. They find the remains of the flying machine, and take one of the empty balloons to the Soup Dragon, who blows it up for them. They use it as a flying machine and bounce up to the living caves to show the others, but Small Clanger lets go, and Tiny Clanger ends up stuck on the ceiling. They try to reach her by climbing on each others backs, but they overbalance. Then they try bouncing Small Clanger up on a blanket, and he gets her down.

2. The Visitor
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: Small Clanger hears something in orbit, and they set up the equipment to catch it. It's a TV, and it makes a scary noise at first, but then starts playing pretty music, so they take it inside, but it goes quiet. They think it might be hungry, so Tiny Clanger fetches some soup. They can't find it's mouth to give it the soup, so Tiny Clanger pours it on top. It makes sparks, and then someone appears and makes a speech. Then it starts playing scary music, so they put the soup tin over it's head and push it down into the caves. The Soup Dragon finds it, and quite likes the music, but then it goes quiet again. They catch it in the net and catapult it back off the planet.

3. Chicken
Named Characters: Major Clanger, Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon, Mother Clanger.
Plot: Major Clanger is launching sky-rockets, but one of them hits something, and all the bits start falling down onto the planet. They collect them and put them back together, making an Iron Chicken. She says thank you, and wanders off. Small and Tiny Clanger go to the soup wells to fetch the soup, and find the Iron Chicken eating the copper leaves. They tell the Soup Dragon, but the Iron Chicken starts drinking soup straight out of the soup well, so the Soup Dragon hits her with a wooden spoon until she stops. Then she wanders off through the wall. Small and Tiny Clanger take the soup back, but the Chicken breaks through the roof right over the table, then eats all the blue string pudding. Major Clanger shouts at her, and she gets upset and goes all broody. Tiny Clanger tries to explain things to her, then she lays an egg and gives it to Tiny Clanger as a present. Then she flies off back to her nest.

4. Music
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, the Iron Chicken, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: Music is coming from the Iron Chicken's egg. It hatches, and is full of music notes. Tiny Clanger sticks them onto the wall to make a tune.
The Soup Dragon finds the tune while Tiny Clanger has gone to fetch Small Clanger. She starts eating the notes, and by the time they get there, there's only two left. She tries to eat them too, but Small and Tiny Clanger don't let her. They take the notes outside and plant them, then decide to get the Cloud to rain on them, and Tiny Clanger tries to blow it over to the notes, but it doesn't move. They ask it nicely, and it goes to the notes and waters them. The notes grow into the Music Trees and play a tune. The Cloud joins in.

5. The Intruder
Named Characters: Major Clanger, Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Music Trees.
Plot: A thing lands on the Clangers Planet and starts wandering around, digging up pieces of the planet and eating them. Major Clanger tells it to stop, but it ignores him. He tries to shake hands with it, but it's hand breaks off. He tries to give it back, but the thing runs away, then takes off again. Major Clanger thinks they should make a space rocket and follow the machine. While the rest go off to build a space rocket, Small and Tiny Clanger look at the thing the machine left behind. It's a telescope, and they get the Music Trees to hold it while they look through it. They find the earth, and try to tell the others, but they're all still busy with their space rocket. Tiny Clanger finds the Iron Chicken's nest and tries to call to her, but it's too far away, and she can't hear. Meanwhile, the others have finished their rocket, and drag it out onto the surface. Tiny manages to get a closer look at the earth, and then yells at them to stop the launch, right in the middle of the countdown. Major Clanger looks, and agrees that the planet looks horrible, so they put the rocket away and save it for something useful.

6. Visiting
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Iron Chicken, Mother Clanger, the Music Trees, Major Clanger, the Cloud.
Plot: Tiny Clanger is trying to call to the Iron Chicken again, because she has found a jewel that she wants to give her as a present. She tells the Music Trees about how she wants to go and visit her friend, and they drop some notes for her. She makes them into a ring, and they rise when she spins them. She makes them into a helicopter, and flies off. Major Clanger tries to go after her in the space rocket, but only the engines take off. Tiny Clanger's helicopter breaks completely, and she is left floating in space, but the Iron Chicken sees her, flies out after her, and takes her back to her nest. Back on the Clangers Planet, Small Clanger talks to the Cloud, then they all blow at it until it flies away from the planet. Meanwhile, Tiny Clanger gives the Iron Chicken her present, and the Chicken gives her a radio hat in return. Then the Cloud arrives to take her home.

7. Fishing
Named Characters: Major Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Music Trees, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: The Clangers are fishing, using the catapults, but the net gets broken. They tell Major Clanger, but he doesn't mind as he's just built another flying machine. They test it, but it doesn't work very well. Tiny and Small Clanger talk to the music trees, and they give them some notes. Tiny Clanger sorts the notes out into a tune, but the Soup Dragon arrives and tries to eat them. Tiny Clanger keeps her away while Small Clanger fetches a fat ring from the Cheese Trees. They stick on the notes and make a musical wheel. The wheel flies away, but gets caught in the Cotton Wool tree. They fix it to the flying machine. It works, so they take it up for some fishing, and catch a green fish. However the fish is too small, so they throw it back.

8. The Top Hat
Named Characters: Small Clanger, the Froglets, Mother Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon, Major Clanger.
Plot: Small Clanger is fishing in the music boat, and catches a top hat with three Froglets inside. The Froglets go indoors and investigate the bedcaves, but when Mother Clanger goes to shoo them out, they suddenly reappear outside. The Froglets hop off, and Mother Clanger sends Small and Tiny Clanger to fetch soup. They find the Froglets in the cave, looking ill, and take them to the Soup Dragon. She gives them some soup, but it doesn't help. Major Clanger fetches their top hat and tries to put them back in, but now they won't fit. The Soup Dragon brings them blue and white pudding soup, and that brings them round. They want more, but Small Clanger has to go to the pudding soup wells to fetch it, and it's a long way. The Soup Dragon gives him directions, but they're complicated, and he gets lost in the crooked caves. He finds a sideways pond with a froglet in, and takes it back to meet the others. They all go back down into the caves and the Froglets vanish into the sideways pond.

9. The Egg
Named Characters: The Soup Dragon, Major Clanger, Tiny Clanger, Iron Chicken, the Cloud, the Baby Dragon.
Plot: The Soup Dragon is in a bad mood. Major Clanger tries to talk to her, but she won't listen. The Clangers ask for soup, but she ignores them, and picks macaroni branches instead. Small and Tiny Clanger help her with the macaroni, and Tiny Clanger asks the Music Trees to play her a tune, but she doesn't seem to like it. Tiny Clanger calls the Iron Chicken and asks her what to do. She tells them to fetch the iron egg, mix up some ingredients in it, and put it into the Soup Dragon's macaroni nest. The Chicken shines a greenish light at the egg, and it changes. The Dragon goes and sits on it, and it hatches out into a baby dragon. Then the Soup Dragon takes them all inside for soup.

10. The Hoot
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, Mother Clanger, the Hoot, the Baby Dragon, the Froglets, Major Clanger.
Plot: Small Clanger catches a little trumpet while he is fishing in the music boat. He's showing it to Tiny Clanger when Mother Clanger calls them to come for soup. They leave the little hoot, but it falls down into the caves. While they're eating, a strange noise starts coming from the caves. Small Clanger goes to find out what's making it. He finds the hoot, and they pull it up to the surface, but it's grown enormous. They go to tell the others, but take the Hoot with them, because it makes a lot of noise if it's left by itself. The others get annoyed by it's hooting, and put some cotton wool into it to make it be quiet. Tiny Clanger feels sorry for it, and takes the cotton wool out so long as it'll be quiet, but it can't be quiet, even though it tries to. Tiny Clanger gets some notes from the music trees and puts them into the hoot. Now it makes music.

11. The Meeting
Named Characters: The Hoots, Major Clanger, Tiny Clanger.
Plot: The Clangers dance to the Hoot's music, until Mother Clanger sends them all to bed. Tiny Clanger gives the Hoot her blanket, but before she can get to sleep, she hears music coming from outside. She wakes Small Clanger, they go and look, and find that it's a planet. They wake Major Clanger, and three Hoots fall on strings to the Clangers' planet. They are looking for the first Hoot, and they get upset when they find out it doesn't hoot any more. Tiny Clanger tells them to leave it alone, and she and Small Clanger shake the notes out of the first Hoot so that it can hoot again. The other Clangers get annoyed at the Hoots for making so much noise, so Small and Tiny Clanger use the catapults to send them home.

12. Treasure
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, Granny Clanger, the Baby Dragon, Mother Clanger, Small Clanger.
Plot: While Tiny Clanger is fishing in the music boat, she catches a bag of gold coins. She takes them inside, and accidentally drops them all over the floor. The others are curious, but Tiny Clanger tells them that they are all hers. The Baby Dragon arrives to play, but Tiny Clanger is too busy counting her treasure. Mother Clanger wants her to fetch soup, but she says she's too busy, so Mother Clanger gets it herself. The Baby Dragon teases Tiny Clanger by pretending to steal some of the treasure, then goes home. Mother Clanger arrives back with the soup, but Tiny Clanger drops the coins again, and they knock the soup over. Small Clanger discovers that the covering comes off the coins, and inside there's delicious brown stuff. Tiny Clanger gives some to everybody, then goes to fetch some more soup. She gives some of the coins to the Dragons, and when she gets back to the living cave, Small Clanger has saved her a coin.

13. Goods.
Named Characters: Major Clanger, the Froglets, Tiny Clanger.
Plot: Something falls onto the Clangers planet. It looks like a machine. They take the pieces inside and fit them together. When it's finished they pull the main lever, and it makes a spoon. They try again, and it makes a teapot. Small Clanger has a go, and it makes a hat. The Soup Dragon arrives with a key that switches on the motor, and the machine starts running by itself. The living cave fills up with things, and Major Clanger runs to get the Soup Dragon to bring the key back to stop it. They try dropping some of the things into the caves, but the Froglets throw it back up. But then they fetch their top hat, and vanish all the things into it.

Series Two.

1. Tablecloth
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, Small Clanger, Mother Clanger, the Froglets, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: The Froglets are cold, so Small and Tiny Clanger fetch some blue string pudding to warm them up. However, instead of eating it, they wear it as an overcoat. The Soup Dragon arrives, and wants some pudding, but it's all wrapped around the Froglets, so she tries to eat it, but the Froglets tie her up in it instead. But now the Froglets are cold again, so Small and Tiny Clanger take Mother Clanger's tablecloth and cut it up to make overcoats for the Froglets. But Mother Clanger isn't too happy about her tablecloth being cut up. It was her only tablecloth.
Meanwhile, outside, a space rocket has landed, and the rocket man sets up some equipment and a flag, before taking off again. Small and Tiny Clanger take the flag to give to Mother Clanger for a new tablecloth.

2. Rock Collector
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, The Rocket Man.
Plot: The thing the Rocket Man left behind on the Clangers' Planet is beeping, and another rocket lands. The new Rocket Man starts to collect rocks. As rocks are quite dull things to collect, the Clangers give him some blue string pudding instead. But he gets all tangled up in the pudding, bumps into Tiny Clanger, and runs away, falling into the Soup Dragon's cave. The Soup Dragon arrives and he tries to run away again, but falls into the soup well. The Clangers pull him out, but he's covered in soup, so Tiny Clanger asks the Cloud to rain on him. He runs away again, but runs himself into orbit. The Clangers fish him down, and put him back into his ship along with the noisey beepy thing.

3. Glow Honey
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, The Glow Buzzers, Major Clanger, Mother Clanger, Granny Clanger.
Plot: Small Clanger plans to climb up and take some glow honey, but the Glow Buzzers don't like the Clangers to take glow honey without asking. Small Clanger takes some glow honey, but the Glow Buzzers take it away again. They give Tiny Clanger some, though. Small Clanger is upset, and follows the Glow Buzzers into some deep caves to try to find some glow honey. Instead he finds flowers. He tries to look into one of them to find glow honey, but the flower doesn't let him. He apologises to the flower, but then can't remember how he got into the cave. He asks the flowers, but they don't answer; then tries to follow the Glow Buzzers, but they're too quick.
The Glow Buzzers go back to the Clangers' cave, and make an arrow for Major and Mother Clanger to follow, but they don't take any notice. Then they take Granny Clanger's wool and fly back down into the caves. They give the end to Small Clanger, and he follows it out. He tries to explain to Granny Clanger, but she's upset because her knitting has been unravelled. The Glow Buzzers bring her a baby flower from the deep caves, and she calms down, then decides to have a nap instead, so the flower goes home again.

4. The Teapot
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Mother Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon, the Music Trees.
Plot: Small Clanger, fishing in the music boat, finds a teapot, and takes it home. Tiny Clanger tries it as a hat, but it doesn't work, so they decide to use it as a soup jug. But the spout gets clogged, so Small Clanger blows through it to unblock it. He gets soup everywhere, and it makes a loud noise like a trumpet. The others make him take it outside. He blows through it again, and something answers. Then lots of teapots arrive. Small Clanger takes the teapot inside to show the others, but they blow through the teapot as well, and the teapots all come inside. Tiny Clanger goes to fetch more soup, but the Soup Dragon blows through the teapot as well. All the other teapots come flying in, and the Soup Dragon hides in the soup well until the teapots go away. Small and Tiny Clanger fetch some notes from the music trees and fix them to the teapot to make it fly. It flies away, and all it's friends follow.

5. The Cloud
Named Characters: The Cloud, Tiny Clanger, Mother Clanger, Small Clanger, the Froglets, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: Tiny Clanger invites the Cloud to Mother Clanger's birthday party. Small Clanger does conjuring tricks with the Froglets magic top hat, but when the Cloud laughs it rains over everybody, and the Clangers make it go outside. Tiny Clanger is upset, and goes outside to sit with the Cloud. The Froglets come outside as well with their hat, and all vanish into it, then come out again. The Cloud goes into the hat too, and then Tiny Clanger and the Froglets go down into the caves. There's another hat down there, and the cloud comes out of it. The Soup Dragon arrives, but doesn't believe the hat is magic, and tries to take it to get a closer look. The Froglets don't like that, and chase her into the soup well. The Cloud and the Froglets go back into the hat, and this time the Froglets invite Tiny Clanger in as well. She goes into the hat, and finds herself outside again. She tells the Music Trees about it, and they play her a tune. Mother Clanger calls her in to bed, and the Cloud and the Froglets go back into the hat.

6. The Egg (2)
Named Characters: The Iron Chicken, Tiny Clanger, the Soup Dragon, the Froglets, the Iron Chick, Small Clanger, Mother Clanger.
Plot: The Iron Chicken spots something on her telescope, and calls Tiny Clanger on the radio hat. The Clangers take the tablecloth outside, and catch the Iron Chicken's falling egg. They wrap it up, and call the Chicken to tell her they have the egg. She comes to collect it, and the Clangers find her a nice crater to use as a nest. But the egg falls through into the caves below, knocking the Soup Dragon into the soup well, and then falling down the cliff. They fish for it with the magnet, and pull up a piece of broken shell. Then, the newly hatched Iron Chick breaks through the wall into the cave, before collapsing from hunger. They offer it soup and pudding, before Small Clanger digs up some nuts and bolts for it to eat. Mother Clanger makes them a nest to sleep in, and gives them the tablecloth to use as a blanket.

7. Noise Machine
Named Characters: The Iron Chicken, the Iron Chick, Tiny Clanger, Small Clanger, Major Clanger, the Soup Dragon.
Plot: The Iron Chicken is teaching her Chick to fly, when Small Clanger hears something. They look through the telescope, then send the music boat and the Chickens up to collect the strange item. They reassemble the machine, wind it up, and discover it is a recording machine, trapping sound in bubbles, then releasing it when the bubble is burst. Mother Clanger calls them all in for dinner, and Tiny Clanger takes a bubble of music from the Music Trees for Mother Clanger. While they are eating, they realise the Iron Chick is missing, and everyone goes back outside to look for it. There is a bubble with the Chick's voice in it, so they look inside the machine. The Chick floats off in bubble, and when the bubble is burst, and the Chick falls back to the planet, the Iron Chicken takes it back home.

8. The Seed
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, the Cloud, the Iron Chicken, Mother Clanger, the Sky Moos.
Plot: Small Clanger chases a seed over the Clangers' Planet and catches it. It begins to grow, but then wilts. Tiny Clanger asks the Cloud to water it, and it grows and blooms. Tiny put some of the flowers into the Cloud, and then calls the others to look. It drops more seeds, then they grow and bloom too. The plants begin to grow uncontrollably, and they chase the Clangers onto the bottom of the planet. They hide in the caves, and Tiny Clanger calls the Iron Chicken to ask what to do. The Chicken tells them to let off a signal rocket. They do, and the Sky Moos arrive and begin to eat all the plants. Tiny Clanger wants to go outside, but Mother Clanger doesn't let her until all the plants have been eaten. Then they bring out some soup for the Sky Moos to wash down the plants with. They drink their soup, then fly off back to their own planet.

9. Pride
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Froglets, the Soup Dragon, the Baby Dragon.
Plot: Small Clanger is digging in the quarry, and uncovers a mirror. He calls Tiny Clanger to show her, but when she arrives he doesn't want her to look in his mirror. Instead, he takes it outside and builds a fence around it. Tiny Clanger goes and makes herself a crown from copper leaves, and wants to look in the mirror, but Small Clanger still won't let her. She shows him the crown, but he won't give it back again. Then they are called inside for soup. Small Clanger doesn't want to leave his mirror, but he also wants soup, so he eventually goes. But before he can even get inside, a Froglet has found the mirror and is looking in it. He gets rid of the Froglet and goes inside for his soup, but it's all been eaten, and nobody wants to talk to him. He goes to fetch his own soup, but the Soup Dragon isn't at the soup wells. She's outside, wearing the crown, and looking into the mirror. Small Clanger is angry with her, and makes her get away from his mirror. Then he asks her for soup, but she says no. Then she brings up a mug of soup, and tells him he can have the soup in return for a look in the mirror. He lets her have a small look, but she wants more. He says no, so she throws the soup over the mirror and goes back inside. He yells at her to come back and clean his mirror, but it falls down a hole, and gets broken. She brings him up some more soup, and they make up.

10. The Bags
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, Small Clanger, the Froglets, the Music Trees, the Soup Dragon, Major Clanger.
Plot: A bag has appeared on the Clangers' Planet. Small and Tiny Clanger ask the Froglets if they know what it is, and they talk to it. It talks back. Tiny Clanger says hello, and it says hello back. The Froglets jump inside, and vanish. Small Clanger gets in to find out where they are and the bag closes, then disappears altogether. Tiny Clanger tries to find it, but it keeps disappearing and reappearing. She tells it to let the others go, and it does. Tiny Clanger asks the Music Trees to play some music, and the bag joins in. Then the Soup Dragon arrives, and she joins in with the singing as well. The Clangers go inside for their soup, and the bag follows them. Tiny Clanger introduces it to the others, and they offer it some blue string pudding, but it eats the whole panful, then when Major Clanger tells it to give them back their dinner, it drops it all on his head. He gets annoyed with the bag, and tells it to leave. Tiny Clanger goes outside to apologise to the bag, and the Froglets turn up with their conjuring hat. Tiny Clanger does a trick, and turns the hat into a lady bag, the Music Trees play a waltz, and the bags dance off into space.

11. The Blow Fruit
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, the Music Trees, the Flowers, the Baby Dragon, Small Clanger, the Soup Dragon, Major Clanger.
Plot: Tiny Clanger is teaching the Flowers to sing by using notes from the Music Trees, when the Baby Dragon calls to her. He's found something. He fetches Small Clanger, and takes them all to show them the copper pipe tree he's found. Tiny Clanger discovers that the pipes from the tree can be played, and starts making them into a set of panpipes. Small Clanger and the Baby Dragon try to play catch with the fruit, and find that they're full of compressed air, like little rockets. Tiny Clanger goes to find somewhere quiet to finish her pipes, but Small Clanger and the Baby Dragon start dropping blowfruit into the soup well, and it makes a terrible noise. The Soup Dragon chases them away, and Tiny Clanger takes some of the Flowers up into the living cave. She plays the pipes, and the Flowers sing, but while everyone's watching them, the Baby Dragon drops a blowfruit into the soup pot, and gets soup everywhere. Tiny Clanger goes outside to try and find somewhere quiet, and Major Clanger decides to try the blowfruit on his old flying machine. Meanwhile, Tiny Clanger and the Flowers have taken the music boat up, and are practising their music, but they are interrupted when Major Clanger manages to get his flying machine airborne. However, it doesn't stay up for long, and the Clangers decide to abandon it again.

12. The Pipe Organ
Named Characters: Tiny Clanger, the Hoots, Mother Clanger, Small Clanger, Major Clanger, the Soup Dragon, the Music Trees.
Plot: Tiny Clanger and the Flowers are playing their music in the music boat, and some Hoots arrive to play with them, until Mother Clanger calls her in for soup. Small Clanger goes to fetch the soup, but the trolley breaks. He borrows Tiny Clanger's pipes, and goes down into a hole. He comes back with lots of blowfruit, and attaches them to the soup pot. It gets back to the living cave, but the soup ends up all over the wall. Major Clanger and the Soup Dragon plan to make a pipeline from copper tree stalks, using the remains of the flying machine and blowfruit as a pump. Tiny Clanger picks up some of the pipes, and goes outside to get the Music Trees to help her tune them. The soup pumping machine is finished, but doesn't work very well, then falls to peices and gets soup everywhere. Mother Clanger is cross, and makes them take the machine outside. Tiny Clanger sees it, and has an idea. She gets the horn from the recording machine and her new pipes, and puts them onto the machine, making it into a pipe organ. The Soup Dragon brings Mother Clanger a fresh potful of soup, and they all go outside to listen to Tiny Clanger's music.

13. The Music of the Sphere
Named Characters: Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger, the Hoots, the Pump Organ, the Cloud, Major Clanger, the Music Trees.
Plot: A Hoot falls down one of the Clangers holes. Small and Tiny Clanger pull it back up again, and Tiny Clanger introduces it to the Music Trees and the Pump Organ. The Hoot Planet arrives to collect the Hoot, and the Pump Organ wants to go too, but when Tiny Clanger tries to attach the rope, the planet moves off too soon, and she gets taken with it. Small Clanger goes after her on the Cloud, and Major Clanger takes the music boat. Small Clanger gets to her first, and tells off the planet for not being careful enough. Then Tiny Clanger plays the Pump Organ for the Hoots, and they all join in, along with all the other strange things that live in that part of space. Major Clanger arrives on the music boat, and takes the Clangers home, but the Pump Organ wants to stay and live with the Hoots.
