Well, given the reviews, I was expecting this to be shite, but it wasn't too bad. No plot to speak of, but then you don't expect such things of the summber blockbusters.
The worm things were good - they were probably the funniest bit. Jeffrey the giant subway monster was also good, although his character could have used further development. Jay as the world-weary cynic was cool, but I would have given him more opportunity to rant. He rants well. Tommy Lee Jones in shorts is a frightening experience. Kay was still cool, his return a little contrived, but I was glad he came back.
Oh, and I want the guys in the locker.
One little thing that I'm probably reading far too much into and that has been on my mind since the first movie - the attitude towards the aliens seems a little trigger happy. Especially if you consider the whole alien-living-on-Earth deal as being representative of immigrants-arriving-in-a-new-country. But I'm not going to get into that, because I'll start sounding like the wishy-washy liberal lefty moron that I am...
A fun game to play with American movies these days is spot-the-blatant-changes-in-the-wake-of-11/9. In this case, a pretty firework display with the statue of liberty as the background and some maudlin sentiments from Kay about 'missing this city'. Reasonably subtle. The fireworks were very pretty, though.
Frank was bearable, although he raises another alien treatment issue - would Jay have been able to behave that way towards him if, instead of being another species, he'd been another variety of human...
