Synopsis:
Ash and Co. have to save a little girl who has suffered the terrible fate of having all her wishes granted by a load of Unowns.
Review:
The opening movie still involves Pikachu rescuing things, but it was a little more interesting than in the second movie. In my opinion, the first one's still the best.
The feature presentation's better than the last two, mainly because there isn't any moralising. The only message seems to be that it's better to achieve things in reality rather than fantasy, but that's quite subtle (and a little questionable, in my view, but we shan't get picky).
There were less dodgy lines in this movie (in fact, I can only remember one...) which detracted from the amusement value. One possible explanation for this is that Team Rocket didn't get much to do besides look scared and help out Team Twerp when it really wasn't necessary... At least in The Power of One it was a case of 'help Ash or the world will be destroyed, and by the way there isn't anyone else around so get the hell on with it'. And in TPoO they got to do the motto. Or a version of, at least. Here, they don't even get to blast off properly...
Oh, and Jesse seems to have acquired a Wobuffet. I wish ITV would bloody well show Johto, already... For one thing, I could use some hints...
The animation's definatly improved. The CGIed Unowns looked a little out of place, but everything else was perfectly acceptable. The actual tower was gorgeous, even if the interior shots of Team Twerp/Rocket climbing stairs were a little overused.
Despite having less obvious flaws (eg blatant moralising) than the previous two movies, The Unown Tower also had less obvious good points. Aside from the aforementioned lack of Rocketisms (most of the Team Rocket humour consisted of Jesse's Wobuffet refusing to stay in it's ball, which was met with a deathly silence. And we were in a fairly packed screening) there was precious little characterisation of Team Twerp. Ash's mum was featured quite heavily (she has a name now. I can't remember what it is, though) but we didn't really learn anything else about her. A new trainer (Lisa) was introduced, who looks suspiciously like the female trainer from Crystal, but that could just be a coincidence. Brock did express... er... interest in her, so it's not very likely she's going to be a regular.
In conclusion - see it if you're crazy about Pokémon, Probably not worth it if you're not.
